one-source transactions question

I have a question concerning one-source transactions in Atomikos. Are they treated as a normal 2PC transations or is there an optimization mechanism that makes them 1PC?? Thanks in advance for info.

We optimize for 1 phase commit if there is only 1 resource in the transaction.
