As a little background, we are doing initial research to utilize Spring's tcServer as a "light weight" application server to run along side our Websphere servers. Hopefully letting us deploy some of our applications and services on environments that are less costly from a licensing perspective.
Later this year We are looking, if the research goes good, purchase enterprise tech support from Spring for tcServer. Now our sales rep. from Spring is telling us that later this year tcServer is going to be adding XA support and it is my initial understanding that this will be atomikos. Is my understanding correct? And if so, does anyone at atomikos have an idea on how the support for atomikos will be handled via tcServer? Will our support contract with Spring include atomikos support and will that support be provided completely by Spring or is there an escalation that will result in the experts at atomikos addressing support calls spring can't handle?
Yes, we (SpringSource) are planning to provide our customers an implementation of JTA for use with tc Server in the future. However, this will be an optional extension to our base runtime application server, and is in no way intended to "lock-in" our customers to a particular implementation of JTA. We understand that our customers place considerable value on flexibility of choice when it comes to the components of their technology stack, and we fully intend to preserve that freedom of choice.
With respect to supporting Atomikos on tc Server, we will need to defer to Atomikos on that question. Any issues that are identified relating to the integration of Atomikos with tc Server, we would be glad to work together to resolve. Thanks, Randy MacBlane SpringSource tc Server Product Manager |
