Not JDBC no-XA datasource to use as "Last Resource"

I am going to try Atomikos with Pivotal Gemfire (no-XA) and database (XA) resources. I'm just wondering whether is possible to use resources other than JDBC and JMS with Atomikos? Gemfire privides JCA Resource Adapter - whether is it possible to let Atomikos to use it as the "Last Resource"?
